International Business with Italian (BSc) is ideal if you have a passion for languages and want to combine specialist Italian skills and cultural training with learning about business in an international context.

Course overview

Today’s fast-paced business world requires the ability to think and act globally. Our highly ranked course will enable you to combine your passion for languages with a business degree. You’ll study a range of business-related topics including marketing, strategy, law and finance, in addition to developing your language skills. Your studies will be further advanced by a year abroad where you will enhance your language skills and embrace a new culture.

You will spend 25% of your time studying Italian, with a study placement in your third year at an institution where modules will be taught. Alternatively, you could opt to work overseas for a year, using your language skills in the business world. You will also attend a seminar in Term Two at an appropriate location near to where you are studying or working.

Course structure

Throughout the course you will study Italian (25%), while developing a deep understanding of the core principles of international business and management. Your studies will be further advanced by a year abroad where you will enhance your language skills by choosing to work, study or undertake a combination of both.

How will I learn?

You will learn in a variety of ways – primarily through a mixture of lectures, seminars, workshops and online learning.

Contact hours

This varies by year but you will have approximately 12-15 hours per week of class time, plus student support and feedback hours.

Class size

Class sizes vary by module: there can be up to 500 students in lectures (mainly Year One) and then around 25 in seminars. Some electives are much smaller.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of examinations and on-going assessments, which may include essays, research assignments, projects, case study analysis, class tests, presentations and group work. The final degree classification is determined by your second, third and final year marks and each contributes 40%, 10% and 50% respectively.

Study abroad

You will be guaranteed a place with one of our partner universities in Europe, Canada or Latin America. The flexibility of our year abroad allows you to choose whether you would like to study, undertake a work placement or a combination of the two. We do not organise work placements, however our dedicated WBS CareersPlus team will provide support in making your applications.

During your year abroad you’ll immerse yourself in local culture and, if you choose to work, learn more about doing business in another country. You’ll also attend a compulsory three-day seminar enabling you to catch up with your classmates, reflect on your year-abroad, and prepare for the two assignments that make up 10% of your overall degree.

Whether you choose work or study, you will return to Warwick confident, ready to put your new and developed knowledge, cultural awareness and skills into practice for your final year.

"The international exposure was great"

"It was clear that within the first year of BSc International Business you learn enough to ensure that everyone is at the same level, and then in the second year you get to start choosing your elective modules and really adapting the course to suit you.

During the third year of my course I spent a year in Spain completing a marketing internship and the international exposure was great, it also allowed me to practice the language that I had been studying in year one and two.

Studying business allows you to develop a way of thinking that is very important in not just your career but everyday life."
