Warwick’s BA Professional and Intercultural Communication is a distinctive interdisciplinary degree designed for students interested in business, communication, English, and languages in the global marketplace. The programme prepares you for a career in business communication by combining the study of English with insights from business, linguistics, social psychology, media studies, organisational communication, and public relations.

You will develop strong analytical, research, and professional communication skills, applying them to authentic business contexts such as marketing and branding, team leadership, corporate communication, and cross-cultural collaboration. Throughout the course, you will examine how English is used strategically in organisations to influence, persuade, and build relationships across cultures and international markets.

A core focus of the degree is understanding how language, communication, and culture shape social and professional interactions. You will explore how English functions in multilingual and multinational business settings, and how communication can succeed - or fail - across cultural boundaries. Using empirical approaches from linguistics, sociolinguistics, and pragmatics, you will learn to analyse English language communication in organisational and business environments.

The course offers flexibility through optional modules in your second and final years, allowing you to tailor your degree to your career interests in business, communication, or related fields. Applied linguistics modules emphasise firsthand engagement with real-world data and independent research, helping you build confidence in analysing communication and communicating persuasively.

You will study within a supportive and intellectually rigorous learning community and graduate with highly transferable skills valued by employers worldwide. Graduates are well prepared for careers in business communication, marketing, public relations, corporate strategy, international organisations, and other English-focused professional roles in the global economy.
