Arts and culture
From Shakespeare to musical theatre, modern art to live music, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Coventry has also been named UK City of Culture 2021, bringing even more fantastic cultural events to the city in 2021-22. So, if you love the Arts and cultural events, there’s never been a better time to enjoy the city.
Sports
Rugby fans can catch Premiership side Wasps at the Coventry Building Society Arena in Coventry, while top-flight Wasps Netball team play at our own Sports and Wellness Hub, among other venues.
For big-name football, Coventry City also play at the Ricoh, while Birmingham hosts both Aston Villa and Birmingham City. You can also enjoy top-class cricket and tennis events in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will bring big names in international athletics to the region.
History
If you enjoy learning about local history, there’s plenty to keep you busy. The area is brimming with historical sites. These include the old and new Coventry Cathedrals, the Medieval St. Mary’s Guildhall, and Warwick and Kenilworth Castles.
Food and drink
Relax over a coffee and meet friends for brunch in nearby town Leamingon-Spa, or check out a local food market in Coventry. At Christmas, you’ll find the largest German Christmas Market in the UK in Birmingham.
Shopping
Birmingham is just a short train ride away and home to some of the region’s major shopping centres, including Bullring & Grand Central. You can also explore independent shops in Leamington and snap up some vintage clothing in Coventry’s Fargo Village.
The outdoors
Our campus borders onto beautiful countryside, including Windmill Hill, and Tocil Wood and Nature Reserve. Travel towards Coventry city centre and you’ll find War Memorial Park, or follow the Kenilworth Cycle Path into Warwickshire. Leamington also has a number of beautiful parks surrounding the town centre. Whether you enjoy walks, cycling or just want somewhere to relax, you’ll find some peaceful spots nearby.
Music
If live music is your thing, you take your pick of big names playing at one of Birmingham's two large arenas, or check out smaller music venues nearer to campus. Head to an open mic night at Coventry's Fargo Village or visit The Assembly in Leamington for a mix of band and DJ sets. In the summer, the Godiva Festival comes to Coventry War Memorial Park. This three-day event offers great live music, family entertainment, international food and drink. This year, students could snap up tickets for all three days for just £13, so it's kind to your bank balance too.
The Warwick community is made up of students and staff from around 150 countries, brought together in a space where everyone’s perspectives are valued.
Sharing a campus
Our first year students live mainly on campus. This means that you’re likely to meet new people while you are just walking around, and taking part in different events and activities. Many of our academics also live on campus, so you may bump into your lecturer having their morning coffee while you grab a take-out!
Online communities
It’s been challenging for people to come together in person over the past year due to Covid-19 restrictions. So it’s been important to find ways to start and strengthen those connections online.
Our Global Connections Community brings together students of every nationality, creating a digital hub where they can share ideas and photos, create and attend events, chat and socialise. It has been a great way for new students to find and meet friends, while they haven’t been able to attend physical events.
Local community
Warwick has close links with the local community. Some of our students help to strengthen those connections by volunteering – in schools, outdoors, and with vulnerable individuals. Read more about volunteering at Warwick
Travelling from campus

There are direct trains running from Coventry’s central station to both Birmingham and London. This means that you could leave campus and be in London within an hour and a half if you choose a direct route.
