Celebrations have been held in Venice to mark the 50th anniversary of the Warwick History programme in Venice. Since 1967 the Warwick History Department, joined later by the Warwick Art History Department, has sent a group of undergraduates to Venice every autumn term for a unique educational experience.

The British ambassador to Italy, Her Excellency Jill Morris CMG, and the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick joined over 150 alumni and guests as well as current and former staff and students studying in Venice this term. The celebrations included a lecture on 'How to Trust a Venetian in the Renaissance' by one of the leading historians of Renaissance Venice, Professor Edward Muir. There were also tours of Venice led by Warwick staff, a meeting of current and former staff and students, a song recital by Sarah Doughty of the History Department, receptions, and a 50th anniversary dinner.
