Competing on the world stage at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games
Warwick students and alumni headed to Paris to compete in this year’s Olympics and Paralympics. These exceptional individuals show what it means to be a Warwick athlete.
Double silver medallist
Kare Adenegan, Wheelchair Racing – GB
Coventry-born Kare (BA History, 2022) won two silver medals, coming in just seconds behind her GB team mate Hannah Cockcroft, in both the T34 100m and 800m.
Bronze medallist
Daniel Caverzaschi, Wheelchair Tennis – Spain
Along with his doubles partner, Dani (BSc Economics, 2014) became the first Spanish player to win a Paralympic medal in any wheelchair tennis category.
Noor Slaoui, Eventing – Morocco
Noor (BA Politics and International Studies, 2017) made Olympic history as she became the first person - male or female - from the Middle East or North Africa to compete in eventing.
Rytis Jasiunas, Windsurfing– Lithuania
Rytis (BSc Accounting and Finance, 2016) carried the Lithuanian flag at the opening ceremony. He started windsurfing aged eight on Lake Garda
Tom Hall, Archery – GB
Londoner, Tom (MChem Chemistry with Professional Experience, 2013; PhD Chemistry, 2019) first took up archery in his second year while browsing sports clubs at the Freshers Fair.
Joshua Bruyns, Speed Climbing – South Africa
Joshua is studying Economics with Modern Foreign Languages and fits in practice five times a week at Warwick’s Climbing Centre in the Sports and Wellness Hub.
Lubjana Piovesana, Judo – Austria
Lubjana is a Former European under 23 Champion and will be competing in Paris for Austria. She’s a sporting scholar and is currently studying Politics.
