On short notice the English Department has been very lucky to catch a rare event with internationally-renowned poet John Mateer. The reading is free, thanks to support from The Warwick Review.John Mateer was born in South Africa (1971) but moved to Australia in the late 1980s. His extensive travelling has led to publication in South Africa, Australia, Japan, the US, Singapore, Portugal and the UK, among other places. His latest collection, The West (Fremantle Press), represents twenty years of his writing. He will be reading a selection of material from the book and discussing his unique journey as a poet and teacher, as well as his political activism
