Widening Participation Officer

Hi. I’m Charlotte, the department’s Widening Participation Officer. After a career involving teaching English and Drama in secondary schools and also corporate recruitment in both the UK and Australia, I joined Warwick nearly 7 years ago. As a Widening Participation Officer with ECLS, it’s my role to ensure that the department is welcoming to students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Working with the students who participate in Transformations is the part of being a WP Officer that I find the most fun, rewarding and inspiring. Transformations has grown and changed over the time I’ve been here, but what has remained very much the same is the commitment, enthusiasm and drive for further progress that every cohort brings. Beth

Hi! My name is Beth, and I am the President of Transformations for this year! I have a hamster called Winnie, and spend more money than I would like to admit collecting Jellycats. I have been a part of the Transformations programme since my first year at Warwick, and am now going into my final year of my English degree. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher; ever since watching Danny Devito’s ‘Matilda’ aged five I knew I wanted to be Miss Honey, and now I work part-time as a tutor, and I’m about to start applying for PGCE’s! Transformations was actually what convinced me to go to Warwick in the first place. Hearing about it at the open day convinced me that this was something I had to be a part of, and it has completely shaped my entire university experience! Transformations has helped me to grow as a person; I struggled with severe anxiety when I came to university, and through Transformations I attended socials, made friends, grew in confidence as a member of the Exec, and now here I am! I am so excited for another year of making memories and leaving a lasting impact on the students we teach, and I really hope you join us!

Hannah

Hi! I am Hannah, the Vice President for Transformations 26/27. I started Transformations in my first year and now starting my final year, I can say that this programme has been my highlight of studying at Warwick. I have not only met and made some amazing friends but also gained a range of practical and professional skills through the teaching and training experiences. What encouraged me to join were the supportive people and community, both in the university and the local schools. By working with Warwick staff members, students across all years studying English Literature and the teachers and students in local schools the impact you can make and experience you can gain is totally unique and valuable. I cannot wait to meet new members and begin another great year of creative writing!
