Congratulations to WATE Winners and all nominees
Many congratulations to all who have been recognised for their teaching via the recent WATE Awards.
Nancy Haijing Jiang and Michael Meeuwis were both short-listed and in the postgraduate group, Owain Burrell and Andy Irwin received a Commendation, and Elizabeth Sharrock was declared a winner.
Podcast: Latin Poetry in the Caribbean, with Dr John Gilmore
Dr John Gilmore speaks about the light Francis Williams’s one surviving poem sheds on the lesser-known functions of Latin in the British colonies. He shares how Latin poetry became a conduit for arguments about the intellectual capacity of people of African descent and, by extension, about the illegitimacy of the slave trade.
IAS Early Career Fellowships
Congratulations to Aiman Aslam Khattak and Mantra Mukim on being awarded IAS Early Career Fellowships. The IAS scheme supports completing Warwick doctoral candidates in the transition phase between their doctoral and independent postdoctoral research careers.
Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship Scheme
The Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick encourages outstanding postdoctoral scholars to apply to The Leverhulme Trust’s Early Career Fellowships scheme, for Fellowships starting in the 2022/23 academic year. The three-year Fellowship contributes 100% of the Fellow’s salary in the first year, and thereafter 50% of the salary, with the balance being paid by the University. Appointments at the University of Warwick are dependent on the award of the Fellowship.
