Waterloo to Desert Storm: New Thinking on International Conflict

We invite proposals for papers on the following broadly defined themes, but we would welcome any related suggestions:
  • The origins of wars and conflicts
  • Planning and preparation for war (e.g. reform of armed forces, changes in military technology, financing war)
  • Tactics, strategy, battles and campaigns
  • Insurgencies, guerrilla warfare, and civil war
  • Political and military leadership
  • Individual experience, perceptions of warfare, and home fronts
  • Peace negotiations and conferences, war crimes and international justice
The conference will include a workshop session on using archives to research the history of conflict and a keynote lecture by Professor Hew Strachan, Chichele Professor of the History of War, University of Oxford.
