An excellent speaker, Robert Service is internationally known as a political historian of Soviet Russia. With Trotsky: A Biography (2009), he has completed a trilogy of Bolshevik leaders; earlier instalments were Lenin (2000) and Stalin (2004). Service is a fellow of St Antony’s College and a research fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford.
