Increased global trade and migration, and laws and governments that cross national boundaries are signs of an ever more globalised world. This month a conference at the British Academy in London brings together historians who have been attempting to examine historical events from a wider perspective than a purely Western one. Felipe Fernandez-Armesto, historian of global cultural history, and Anne Gerritsen, lecturer in history at Warwick, discuss whether it is ever possible to write truly global history?
