What is hotspot-secure?

Hotspot-secure is the primary wireless network service available for staff and students across the University campus.

Where can I connect to the hotspot-secure service?

Hotspot-secure is available in all academic and administrative buildings across the University campus. It is also available at Walsgrave CSRI, Wellesbourne Campus, WBS in The Shard and the Leamington Learning Grid. For more details of coverage, please click here.

Getting started:

The first time you connect to hotspot-secure, appropriate configuration settings need to be added to your device. Please click the following for help with setting up your hotspot-secure connection:

What is WPA2?

WPA2 stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access 2. A variant of this, WPA2 Personal, is typically used in home or small office setups using a pre-shared key to protect access. This however does not scale to the size of a University community and therefore WPA2 Enterprise is used to provide the user authentication process for hotspot-secure.

How secure is hotspot-secure?

WPA2 implements 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption with the use of Counter Mode with Cipher Block Chaining Message Authentication Code Protocol (CCMP). The encryption keys that are used for each client on the network are unique and specific to that client.
