Limmud Festival’s PhD engagement programme
Limmud Festival PhD Programme 2025 - Call for applications
Calling all current PGRs and ECRs - be a part of LimmudFestival’s PhD engagement programme, created to build a cohort of emerging academics in the field of Jewish studies across the UK, bridging the gap between Jewish academic and community life, and promoting opportunities for networking and mentoring.
This year, Limmud will award places for £60.50 (a 90% discount for Sunday 28th December - Wednesday 31st December in a shared room, with the possibility to upgrade or extend at the candidate's own expense) for up to five UK-based PhD students or ECRs (within five years of submitting and without a permanent academic position) working in the field of Jewish studies (including but not limited to history, literature, art, Torah, politics, sociology, anthropology, music).
Selected candidates will be required to:
1. Present a session based on their field of research. This could be an introduction to the topic, part of a thesis chapter, a deep-dive into a source of their choice, or something discovered in a rabbit hole! Limmud is all about learning and we’re excited to hear all about new research in Jewish studies in the UK.
2. Participate in a pre-Festival training workshop on presentation skills and how to convert research for public audiences.
3. Attend five additional sessions at Festival (led by the four other candidates, and a panel featuring selected invited senior academics) and engage in peer-led feedback and mentoring.
4. Come along to a social with this and last year's PhD cohorts!
Candidates should submit a 200-word summary of their PhD research, as well a session proposal (100 words) via this form by 5pm on Friday 15th August 2025.
