Welcome Week

As well as the university-wide events for Welcome Week, there are a range of activities taking place in the History Department to help you to settle in. Please see your Personal Welcome Week timetable as well as the full schedule of History events, below. These will all appear in your Welcome Week timetable:

Walk: History Walking Tour - uncover the hidden histories of campus

Time Location

Friday 20 September

Take a guided walk with our Student Ambassadors and your fellow students around Warwick campus to uncover hidden histories. Learn about the history of student activism at Warwick and find out more besides about the history of Warwick Campus.

14:00 - 1500 No need to book. Meet opposite Cafè Nero. Please arrive on time to your chosen session as the tours will leave promptly from the ground floor of the Faculty of Art Building. Look out for your History Student Ambassador (in their History t-shirt).

 

   

Sunday 22 September

11:00 -12:00 No need to book. Meet opposite Cafè Nero.

Talk: Welcome to the Department of History

Meet key staff in the department. Welcome from Head of Department Prof. Tim Lockey MBE

Meeting: Meet your personal tutor

A chance for new undergraduates to meet their personal tutor and peers in the History department.

11:00-12:00 or 12:00 -13:00

Each student will see their individual timings and room location on their welcome timetable. NB Some may not have meetings until Week 1.

Social Event: History Department Welcome Mixer (Come either Monday or Tuesday) with refreshments

A relaxed social event for new undergraduates to meet staff and peers in the department. Following on from meeting your personal tutor join us in the History Department on the third floor of the FAB to meet staff, other first year History undergraduates and current student Ambassadors and our History Student networks. We can't wait to meet you!

Tuesday 24 September

Wednesday 25 September

Drop-in / Student Opportunity / Social Event: Get involved! A drop-in showcasing extra-curricular opportunities within the History Department with pizza

An informal drop-in where you can explore the many opportunities available to you within the Department of History. Pizza provided. Connect with the Student Voice Team, dive into the dynamics of the Student Staff Liaison Committee, and discover how to amplify your voice.
Hear from our dedicated networks, including the Widening Participation Student Network and the Black Student History Network, JOIN FOR FREE or find out how to get involved as a network co-ordinator. Engage with the innovative Undergraduate Research Support Scheme, and be inspired by peers involved in the Reverse Mentoring Scheme and Hidden Histories (teaching in schools projects). This is your chance to enrich your academic studies with experiences that extend far beyond the classroom!

Thursday 26 September

Talk: Question Everything! What does it mean to be a historian?

An interactive session led by members of the department, discussing what it means to be a historian, the key skills and strengths to be a good historian, and how we can all be accountable to each other as historians at Warwick.

A presentation from the History academic subject librarian Andy Calvert introducing you to the vast resources available in the library specific to History students.

Talk / Social event: History Joint Degree Induction for non-home History students ONLY. With pizza.

Welcome to the Department of History! Join us for pizza. A session for joint degree students with a different department as home department (English and History, Global Sustainable Development, Liberal Arts, Law with Humanities and History and Languages. This is for students who have not otherwise been present for History welcome week events and a chance to meet key staff, find out about the department and ask any questions.

Drop-in Question Everything! Follow up drop-in

Do you still have questions? Following on from this mornings Question Everything - Being a Historian session, come along to an informal drop-in where our Academics will be on hand to answer any questions you may have at the start of your course. It's important we address these at the start of term, please come and speak to us. All welcome.
