Student Feedback

The MCF teaching team takes student feedback very seriously. Not only do we provide detailed, dedicated and supportive feedback on students' work, helping you to develop your written work ahead of the next stage of your academic career, but we also take on board your comments and suggestions for making the module even better.

Here is what last year's MCF cohort (2014-15) had to say about their decision to take the module:

'As a History and French student [MCF] appealed to me the most [of first-year modules] as it incorporates both French and History. I also like that it's contemporary history. It has definitely lived up to my initial choice, I've found it really interesting.'

'MCF has been my favourite module in my first-year; I look forward to lectures and seminars. I chose it for the historical dimensions and it definitely lived up to expectations.'

'This was by far the most interesting option as it linked the language I am studying to history.'

'It has exceeded my expectations and I feel a lot more confident with French politics.'

'The best of my modules this year.'

'It has been my best module: fantastic!'

'I feel the main components of modern French history and society have been covered in a highly interesting and enjoyable way'

'The standard of teaching was high'

As a result of feedback from 2014-15:

  • Lecture handouts will appear on the relevant webpages before the week's lecture
  • The number of sources for the term 1 sourcebook will be reduced
  • Seminars in term 2 (especially immigration/integration) will relate more to the articles posted on the relevant webpages
