How to join Tell us a Story project
Our Tell Us a Story project challenged language degree students to ‘come up with stories that celebrate their encounters - imagined or real - with other cultures and languages’. The students who volunteered drew on their experiences of living and working abroad and wrote short stories in the languages of their host countries. They teamed up with overseas students studying at Warwick to perfect the language in their stories, which were then organised into a collection. We have a variety of tales in French, German, Spanish, Italian and Chinese, suitable for a range of ages from KS 2 to KS 5. Each story is preceded by a short introduction from its author and accompanied by questions prompting discussion and reflection. A parallel translated booklet allows pupils to check meaning and / or experience stories in languages they have not yet learned. For KS 2 pupils, you might want to use the English translations. You can download the whole booklets or read individual stories with the links on the right-hand side of the homepage.
We would like to invite your pupils to read some of the stories in your classes and to participate in online activities and competitions that will, we hope, foster a sense of community amongst our language learners. The closing date for submission of competition entries is Monday 30th October 2023. Winning pupils will receive a voucher prize and we hope to run an online event to celebrate the work produced.
Please register your interest by filling in the ‘Participate’ form for teachers on the right-hand side of the page. Then feel free to explore all the activities and competitions. We are looking forward to receiving your creative work.
