Workshop Day 2

Aims to:

  • promote understanding of the relevance of  embryology, growth control, growth centres, growth rotations and their relevance to Orthodontics.
  • Provide information on Craniofacial anomalies and syndromes
  • provide information of the basic principles of patient assessment and diagnosis including assessment of hard and soft tissues, habits
  • promote understanding of the need for relevant radiographs and their interpretation in diagnosis and treatment planning and the importance of clinical photography
  • introduce the latest diagnostic imaging and data manipulation techniques available to the clinician for the treatment planning  of Orthodontic cases
  • introduce the concept of cephalometric analysis
  • to provide group interactive learning in a structured manner
  • have an appreciation of the effect of bone resorbtion on normal hard anatomy and soft tissue aesthetics and their implications with regard to Orthodontic treatment planning      

Objectives:

Following Day 2 dental surgeons should be able to:

  • apply knowledge of the functional anatomy involved  in Orthodontic treatment planning and  show an awareness of possible anatomical complications
  • understand the effect of tooth loss in terms of both bone resorbtion patterns and occlusal disruption and facial profile.
  • understand the significance of Skeletal form and the relevance on treatment planning  and success.
  • describe in detail the process involved in the Orthodontic Case Assessment of a patient including any relevant special tests
  • carry out relevant analyses of Cephalometric radiographs
  • Describe in detail relevant anatomical anomalies in tooth development and their implications to Orthodontic treatment
