Chemistry Winter Research Showcase 2026
Winter
Research Showcase
1-4pm, L5, and Science Concourse | 9 Dec 2026
We warmly invite you to join our annual Research Showcase on Wednesday, 9th December, 1-4pm.
Indulge in seasonal sweet treats and engage with our expert researchers to get a real flavour of cutting-edge chemistry at Warwick. Explore the science, connect with lab teams and discover how you could get involved. Starting in L5 with our Winter Seminar, featuring Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, Dr Daisy Pooler, and continuing on the Science Concourse where you can chat with academics and their teams.
13:00-14:00: L5, Early Career Researcher Winter Seminar, with Dr Daisy Pooler
Hear from our Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, Daisy Pooler. Daisy's research focuses on designing molecules that behave like machines by performing controlled movements in response to light. Whether they are photoswitches, which can be turned on and off using light, or combinations of molecular actuators which can perform complex functions when working in unison i.e. molecular machines. Just as we link mechanical components together to make macroscopic machines, I’m interested in creating tiny molecular machines that allow us to control chemical and biological processes, primarily using light.
Her current work explores how these molecules could be used to interact with biological systems, with a long-term ambition of developing photoswitches which can be used to address red-green colourblindness and restore trichromatic vision using optogenetic approaches.
Attendance at this seminar counts towards your Warwick AwardLink opens in a new window
14:00-16:00pm: Find out what academics get up to when they aren't teaching!
Join us for this relaxed event where staff will be on hand to talk you through their research and answer questions on:
- URSS opportunities in Chemistry
- what to expect from an MChem project
- joining labs for Master's or PhD study
- the chemistry behind solutions to major global challenges
Don't miss this great opportunity for all Chemistry Undergraduate Students.
