What is the Virtual Desktop?
The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) allows you to access the School of Engineering's computing resources remotely, providing a similar experience to using a physical computer on campus, without the need for your own high spec computer or having to buy a Windows machine.
How Do I Access the Virtual Desktop?

Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
- A reliable internet connection is essential for a smooth experience.

Install the VMware Horizon Client.
- Download the Client:

Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software on your device.

Connect to the Virtual Desktop.
- Open the VMware Horizon Client:
Launch the installed application. - Add Server:
Click on "Add Server" or "New Server."
Enter the server address:vdi.warwick.ac.uk
Click "Connect." - Log In:
When prompted, enter your University of Warwick username (e.g.,u1234567
) and password.
Click "Login." - Select Desktop:
Choose the available virtual desktop assigned to you, such as "Engineering Desktop."
Double-click to open the virtual desktop.

What Can I Do on the Virtual Desktop?

How Do I Save My Work?

University Network Drives:
Save your files to your personal network drive (often labeled as the H: drive) to ensure they are backed up and accessible from other university computers.

You can also save files to your OneDrive account provided by the university.

When finished, log off from the virtual desktop to end your session properly.
