Q: Who fills out the questions on the application?
A: The mentor of the triad (any Warwick SLS PDRAs, PhD students in their 2nd or 3rd academic year, or Senior technicians) fills out the application. Mentees need to be aware and agree that they will be part of the program. If you are an undergraduate/MBios student and are interested, we encourage you to ask your mentor to email us.
Q: Is there any specific format or place to submit project proposals?
A: Please submit your application using this online form by 5 pm on the 1st of December 2023. The mentor of the triad (any Warwick SLS PDRAs, PhD students in their 2nd or 3rd academic year, or Senior technicians) to fill out the application. There is no need to submit research project proposals in this application.
Q: Is there a way to advertise to or find students who would be interested in the project?
A: Sadly, given the time constraints, we are looking to fund already formed triads involved in research supervision: Faculty member, Mentors (any Warwick SLS PDRAs, PhD students in their 2nd or 3rd academic year, or Senior technicians) and Mentees (Undergraduates in their third year and MBios students).
Q: How does the funding work for the mentor?
A: The funding for Warwick SLS PDRAs, PhD students in their 2nd or 3rd academic year, or Senior technicians is flexible within the restrictions of other grant income that supports them. Please email us to offer more clarity depending on your case. All expenditure must be incurred and processed by 31 July 2024.
Q: How does the funding work for the mentee?
A: The bursary for undergraduate/Mbios mentees is designed to be funding to support them to extend their work. Please email us to offer more clarity depending on your case. All expenditure must be incurred and processed by 31 July 2024.
Q: Can the mentee do a summer project in another institution?
A: No, we expect the triad that is formed within the program to develop research at Warwick. The mentees are expected to be doing research with their mentors and interact regularly.
Q: How does the additional mentoring support from an external faculty member work?
A: This is designed for the mentor to get extra help (if wanted) and give them the opportunity to connect with another faculty member. This is no mandatory.
