Overview

So that we can operate the SERG network we may collect and store personal information you submit via email or our website. Please read the following privacy policy to understand how we will use and protect your information.

SERG is run by staff at The University of Warwick (UoW). We work with people at other Universities to organise SERG, but network member personal information is not shared any other University/organisation.

By submitting your personal information (e.g. email address), you are consenting to the University of Warwick and SERG holding and using it in accordance with this policy.

We may change this privacy notice from time to time, when we do we will inform you by putting a message on the website. This privacy notice was last updated on 5th May 2022. We recommend that you check the privacy policy each time you visit this site.

1. Who we are

We are the Social and Ethical Research in Genomics (SERG) Network, based at Warwick Medical School, The University of Warwick (UoW).

 2. What personal data do we collect

UoW is your data controller. The UoW collects and uses personal data when you access our websites (e.g. websites ending in warwick.ac.uk and wbs.ac.uk), in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (“GDPR”) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (“DPA 2018”). The information that we may collect and process data from you includes:

i) Information you give us:

Information that you provide by completing forms on our website, including registration for membership or workshops, material posted on twitter, information provided to us by email/contact form, and information collected during workshops (where not anonymous).

If you choose to contact us or join the network, and therefore provide personally identifying information (typically your name, organisation, e-mail address, and research interests), this data is stored by the SERG team on a database within University of Warwick secure servers, accessible via encrypted computers requiring security log-on details. Only designated University of Warwick staff will be able to access this information.

You can contact us at any time to ask what information we hold for you on our SERG member database, and you can request that this is edited or deleted.

If you request to join the network and/or attend one of our workshops, then this will be taken as consent for us to contact you for purposes related to SERG. We will not pass your details to anyone else without your consent to do this.

 

ii) Automatically gathered information (including cookies)

UoW will automatically gather certain types of information whenever you interact with this website. Reasons for this include statistical analysis of website use (including Google Analytics) and to improve the website. iii) Content from other pages

Please note that although our websites may include hyperlinks to other websites; this privacy notice only applies to UoW websites. This includes any embedded content (e.g. videos etc.) as well as links to other sites. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Videos on the website may use Vimeo or YouTube and their privacy policy can be found on their webpages.

To protect us from spam submissions, contact forms may use Google reCAPTCHA. Forms with reCAPTCHA enabled are inaccessible to people in countries where Google products are blocked, such as China.
