On completion of the module, you should be:

- Competent at inserting passive removable appliances
- Competent at inserting active removable appliances previously adjusted by a dentist
- Competent at fitting orthodontic headgear
- Competent at fitting orthodontic facebows which have been previously adjusted by a dentist
- Competent at measuring elastic headgear forces
- Familiar with the components of functional appliances
- Familiar with the construction of functional appliances
- Familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of functional appliances
- Competent at inserting passive removable functional appliances
Syllabus
This module consists of three sections:
Removable appliances
- Role of removable appliances in orthodontic treatment. advantages and disadvantages, components of an appliance, construction of an appliance
- Different types and uses of appliances
- Fitting and adjustment of appliances
Extra Oral Traction
- EOT principles of use and directional forces, components of Extra Oral Traction
- Identify types and describe the fitting of safety headgear
Functional appliances
- History types uses
