Aims and Learning Outcomes
Develop your theoretical knowledge and evaluation skills, enabling you to understand the application of complex endodontic situations
- Also develop your ability to surgically treat teeth where conventional endodontics has failed
Aims and learning outcomes
The aims of this module are:
- To enable students to formulate and implement a safe and predictable treatment programme, involving the identification and application of standard and more advanced endodontic treatment modalities
- To develop an in-depth understanding of, and the ability to apply, the assessment, diagnostic and case management skills essential to the successful management of endodontic cases
- The module contributes to the aims of the degree course by ensuring that students develop their clinical practice through a structured learning experience
By the end of the module, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate whole patient care, including the formulation of an initial diagnosis and case assessment and be able to treat the complex endodontic situation
- Critically evaluate treatment options and discuss these appropriately with the patient
- Formulate a definitive treatment programme supported by clinical data, and draft the associated written treatment plan
- Effectively implement all stages of the treatment programme
- Understand the legal and ethical principles underlying patient care and treatment
- Evaluate the outcome of treatment on completion of the treatment programme against the initial stated objective, and develop and implement a future clinical pathway for the long term monitoring and maintenance of the case
- Demonstrate sound theoretical knowledge of the fundamental principles of re-treatment of endodontic cases
- Critically appraise research literature relating to clinical practice in endodontic
