This module is designed to provide the opportunity for in-depth study of the nutritional aspects and implementation of dietary therapy and weight management in obesity and diabetes. Participants will also gain knowledge and skills as a basis for evidence based clinical practice.

Topics covered include:

  • The epidemiology and aetiology of obesity
  • A psycho-social perspective of obesity
  • Medical and dietetic management of obesity
  • Physical activity/exercise
  • Different types of dietary therapy in glycaemic control
  • Nutritional requirements in various parts of the life cycle
  • Nutritional implications of alcohol, exercise, micro and macrovascular disease, renal disease and lipid abnormalities
  • Health behaviour change
  • Weight management
