AI for understanding the job description and keywords
Second of three uses of AI for online job search and application
Another use of AI while you are searching and applying for jobs online is that it would provide you with a quick way to fully understand the job description and also check if you understood it correctly.
For understanding the job description, you can ask AI to:
1- Analyse and list the job requirements by order of importance.
2- Analyse and summarise the job description for you.
3- Help you in identifying the keywords and phrases that you would need to include in your CV and Cover letter.
4- Help you get a better understanding of the employer goals, missions and aims that you can also use when writing your Cover letter (see Module 8 for more details on customising the Cover letterLink opens in a new window).
Remember the AI makes mistakes and sometimes makes up information.
AI prompts to use for understanding the job description & keywords
Below are some prompts you can use if you would like AI to help you in understanding the job description better.
Remember, to use the prompts provided in this module, you need to do the following steps:
1- Copy them
2- Paste them into the AI platform
3- Change what is in red in brackets []
It is important to note that similar to the templates in section 3.3 in Module 3Link opens in a new window, anything in red and in brackets [ ] in the prompt provided is information you need to fill by yourself .
a. Prompt to analyse the job requirements:
I am applying for [job title] at [company name]. Here’s the job description [paste job description]. Identify the top 10 hard skills, soft skills, and keywords that appear most critical. Rank them by importance and tell me which ones are critical for me to include in my CV. Stick to the information provided in the job description only. Do not make up any additional information.
b. Prompt to analyse the job role and what is required:
I am applying for [job title] at [company name]. Here’s the job description [paste job description]. Summarise for me in one paragraph what this job is and what characteristics are they are looking for in a candidate. Stick to the information provided in the job description only. Do not make up any additional information.
c. Prompt to Identify keywords and understand the role or employer:
I am applying for [job title] at [company name]. Here’s the job description [paste job description]. Acting as my CV expert and career advisor, your task is the following:
1- Identify the main keywords that I should include the in my CV.
2- Identify the main aim of the role or of the employer (if available), and specify which one it is.
Stick to the information provided in the job description only. Do not make up any additional information.
