Africa @ Warwick

Research into the lasting impact of HIV and the changing face of democracy in Africa were just two of the issues discussed during the Africa @ Warwick event held in January. The event highlighted research themes and teaching programmes connecting the University of Warwick to Africa. A series of 13 podcasts were recorded over the two days and are now available online.

Effects of Climate Change: One-Third of Coral Reefs ‘Beyond Recovery’

Coral reefs are still at risk from the effects of global warming despite having conservation zones designed to protect them, and at least one-third of the world’s coral reefs are now beyond recovery. An international team of researchers, including scientists at Warwick University, have warned that urgent action is needed to prevent the total collapse of these fragile ecosystems.

Prime Minister opens Warwick Digital Laboratory

Warwick’s new ultra-high tech facility, the Digital Laboratory, was officially opened by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at a ceremony on Friday 25 July using ‘virtual scissors’ to cut a ribbon in cyberspace.

University friends reunite for 100 mile cycle in support of Emily and Ovarian Cancer Action

Fifteen Warwick University graduates will reunite on 17th and 18th November to cycle 100 miles from London to Leamington Spa to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Action in support of their friend Emily McArthur who is currently fighting the disease.

The Sunday Times University Guide, published yesterday, ranks Warwick 6th in the UK.

Warwick has climbed one place since the 2004 edition.

Reinvention Centre - Undergraduate Research-based learning

The Reinvention Centre, one of Warwick’s successful CETL bids, is being launched on Wed 12 October.

The Centre’s purpose is focused around developing, consolidating and enhancing research-based learning within the undergraduate curriculum.
