LSEG Workspace – New Licence Registration Process
LSEG Workspace is an online global company and financial database from the London Stock Exchange Group available to students and staff across the University.
It was launched in June 2025 when the Eikon/Datastream service was withdrawn from use by the service provider. Eikon/Datastream was available on a standalone pc in the Library (with similar standalone terminals in WBS and Economics). LSEG Workspace is the replacement product for Eikon/Datastream.
With WBS, the Library provides access to a limited number of licences (due to the very high cost of licences) which have been issued via a process of self-registration up to this point. However, this is not currently providing a good or equitable user experience. In particular, the system does not advise when all licences are in use, and does not offer a waiting list, which creates anxiety and uncertainty around access to the database.
From 27 October 2025, we will be changing to a manual system of issuing licences. Managed by the Library, this will ensure equitable access through the maintenance of a waiting list system.
The process is straightforward for users, who will complete a brief MS Form to request a licence. They will then either be immediately given access to an LSEG Workspace licence, if one is available, or added to the waiting list. The library will review the waiting list and licence period regularly, and current licence periods and waiting times will be displayed on our LSEG Workspace library guide.
We will continue to issue licences for 7 days but will reserve the right to reduce the licence period if demand is very high, to ensure as much access as possible. Users will always be informed when taking up a licence how long they have the licence for.
