Which service should I use?

Material needed for personal study/research, but Library does not hold it	Use Get It For Me
Out of print or highly specialised item	Use Get It For Me — we will attempt to borrow it from another library via interlibrary loan
All Warwick copies are on loan	First, place a hold via Click and Collect. If the item is missing or long overdue and a hold is not a practical option, then use Get It For Me.
Teaching staff: Item needed for teaching/course delivery as an academic	Add the item to your Reading List and publish to notify the Library. If you do not have a Reading List in Talis Aspire, please email readinglists.library@warwick.ac.uk
The item is on your module reading list as a student	If your Talis reading list links you directly to Get It For Me, or the Library does not hold any copies of the item, you can submit a request here - just make sure you include your module code when you do.
You need a different format for accessibility reasons	Visit our Alternative Formats page for support and guidance
Can't visit campus but Warwick holds the item	Use our Scan and Deliver service — chapters/articles scanned and emailed within 48 hours (Monday to Friday)
Need a physical book but can't visit campus	Use our Postal loan service — books posted to your address (allow up to 10 days)
The item is a DVD related to your studies	Use Get It For Me — we may be able to purchase this for the Library collection

How to make a request

Step 1: Check Library Search

Make sure the item is not already available in the Library Collection before requesting. Sign in for accurate availability and access options.

Step 2: Submit your request

Select the material type and complete the form with as much detail as possible. The more information you provide, the quicker we can locate and supply your item.

You can use following sources to find the details of your item: The British Library, Library Hub Discover, Worldcat or Google Scholar. The tabs below show you what information to include.

Journal article

Thesis or dissertation

Before submitting, check EThOS (UK), ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (US/international), theses.fr(France), BASE, CORE, NDLTD, and Global ETD Search for free access first.

Most higher education institutions do not lend original copies of doctoral theses. However, you may be able to arrange a visit to the institution to consult the thesis in person.

DVD (study related)

Study-related only — DVDs for leisure use cannot be requested. This service is for academic study and research only. We are also unable to supply streaming media, audio files, CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs for digital software.

DVDs may be purchased for the Library collection rather than borrowed from another library. We will notify you by email once available. We cannot supply DVDs for leisure use.

Step 3: We locate it for you

We search our global library network. We may buy it, digitise it, or borrow it from another library.

Step 4: Receive your item

Once your request is processed, you'll be notified by email. Articles and book chapters are usually delivered electronically to your university email, while physical books (loaned or purchased) and online books will be available for collection or access once you receive notification.

How long will it take?

Providing an ISBN (for books/book chapters) or ISSN (for articles) significantly speeds up your request. Items without these identifiers may take longer to locate. We aim to deliver materials within the timeframes below, but delivery may take longer due to supply chain and shipping

How to find an ISBN or ISSN

ISBN — for books and book Chapters

ISBN (International Standard Book Number)

is a 10 or 13-digit unique identifier for a book.

You can find it:

On back cover of the book (under the barcode)
On the copyright page
By searching the title on WorldCat or Google Books
On the publisher's website or using isbnsearch.org

Note:

Print and digital formats, and different editions have different ISBNs — always use the ISBN for the specific edition you need.

ISSN — for Journal Articles

An ISSN (International Standard Serial Number)is an 8-digit code (e.g. 0028-0836) that identifies a journal or serial publication.

Database record (e.g. Scopus, Web of Science)
ISSN Portal (portal.issn.org)

Tip: The ISSN is the single most useful piece of information for article requests.

Alternative Formats

Students with a print disability can access RNIB Bookshare— an online catalogue of educational texts in accessible formats.

Eligibility includes: visual impairment, autism, AD(H)D, dyslexia, dyspraxia, or a physical disability affecting use of print material.

Reading Lists

For Teaching Staff

To request new or additional material for teaching, simply add the item to your Reading List and publish the list to notify the Library.

The team can then assess and purchase/digitise your list items as necessary.

The University of Warwick Library supports resource sharing by supplying loans and copies from our collections to libraries in the UK and internationally, subject to availability and licensing restrictions.

Renewals & Returns

Library supplies print interlibrary loans with a 12-week loan period, with 1 renewal before due date and will be subject to recall. This is to reduce administrative processes on both sides.

Borrowing libraries are responsible for the safe return of all items and any associated replacement costs if items are lost or damaged.

Fees for External Libraries

If requested via Worldshare, our charges are detailed in the Policy Directory.

if requested via email, we charge UK libraries in line with current British Library prices.

We also accept payment via IFLA vouchers.
