What is the Publications service?

The Publications service aims to create a complete record of the research outputs of the University of Warwick from its establishment in 1965 to present day.

In its 1st February 2011 meeting, the University Steering Group supported the provision of an "institutional mandate for Warwick authors to deposit publication references in the new Publications Database".

What is Warwick Research Publications?

Warwick Research Publications is is the University of Warwick’s institutional repository - Warwick Research Archive Portal (WRAP). It is a full text, open access service showcasing and preserving research outputs of the Warwick community. The concept of an institutional repository is part of a growing change in the model of scholarly communications.

History

The Warwick Research Archive Project was a JISC funded repositories start-up project, under the Repositories and Preservation Programme. The project ran from 1st October 2007 until the 31st March 2009. For more information about the project and the experiences of the WRAP team please read our final report WRAP final report(PDF Document).

How are the services different?

The Publications service records research that cannot be made available as full text in WRAP.

What are the benefits?

  • Increase the global visibility and impact of your work - include your work in one of the Top Ten UK repositories
  • Supports the University's REF (Research Excellence Framework) submission, providing a collection of high quality records to draw upon
  • Single, secure location that links to other institutional and external systems and processes. This includes the My Profile system
  • Showcases the full range of research created by the University for potential collaborators, students and investors
  • Rigorous checking of copyright policy by a dedicated team
  • Professional quality metadata (catalogue records) to describe your work
  • Provides you with a persistent URL link. Also links out to the final published version using the digital object identifier (DOI) where possible
  • Indexed by Google to raise your academic profile

Open Access

Open Access means research is accessible online, at no charge, as soon after publication as possible to promote exchange of ideas and information. Also, many research funders require the research they have funded to be made available openly. Institutional repositories are one way for authors to comply.
