Summer Building Works 2026
Updates on our Summer Building Works
Throughout the summer, a range of maintenance and improvement works will be taking place across the Library to enhance our spaces. While we aim to keep disruption to a minimum, you may notice some temporary changes to access and occasional noise. Please look out for signage and updates around the building.
Thank you for your patience while these improvements are carried out. We appreciate your understanding as we work to enhance the Library for everyone.
Upcoming projects include
1. Mobile shelving
Works on upgrading the electronic mobile shelving in the library will begin on 29th June. The expectation is that two blocks of shelving will be closed off during each phase with works beginning on floor 2 extension. While the works are underway there will be limited access to materials for Click and Collect requests. However, we will arrange access times with contractors so that materials can still be requested. There will be noise during the upgrades, beginning on the Floor 2 extension.
2. Toilet refurbishment
The toilets on the Floor 2 and Floor 3 extensions are being refurbished to provide a refreshed and improved environment. Alternative facilities will remain available during the works.
3. Laptop loan lockers
New laptop loan lockers are being installed in the Floor 1 Lobby ready for the start of the new academic year. Will send further details about this and exciting development.
4. Meeting room improvements
Work will be taking place on the doors of several meeting rooms to support a better room booking experience.
5. Bridge fire doors
Essential work will be carried out on the fire doors on the bridge between the Main Library and the Extension. Access between the two buildings may be affected while this work is underway.
6. Training and Seminar Rooms
New audiovisual (AV) equipment will be installed in the Training Room and Seminar Room over the summer.
7. Wolfson Research Exchange lockers
Additional lockers are being installed in the Wolfson Research Exchange (REX) to provide more storage for PGR students.
8. Floor 2 extension rooms
Soundproofing improvements will be carried out in Room 256 (Floor 2 Accessible Study Room).
