Training
The Reading List Team are always happy to run training sessions! We cater to a wide range of abilities, from beginners, to more experienced users who might just need a refresher session.
Getting started with using Talis Aspire should take no more than 30-60 minutes (although most users prefer to book an hour with us) and we can work through your list(s) together as part of the training. Refresher sessions may require less time and can focus on any questions you may have or updates to best practices or the Talis platform.
We can meet on Teams, in the Library, or in your office/department. We offer this training year-round; however, please note that we may have reduced availability during peak times such as the months of September and October.

Support with Inputting
While all Talis Aspire users are encouraged to take ownership of populating, maintaining and publishing their own reading lists, there may be circumstances where this is not possible. The Library is here to help with the inputting or updating of new or existing reading lists, should any of the following apply:
- To support disability
- To support neurodiversity
- To support illness
- If you are a visiting academic or sessional tutor
- If you are a very recent starter with urgent teaching responsabilities
- If you are a prospective new starter who does not yet have access to Universiy systems, including Talis Aspire
Roles and Responsabilities
While it is our pleasure to input or update lists to support the circumstances outlined above, please be aware that due to operational needs, particularly at busy times of the year, there are a few limitations to what we can input. Here is what you can expect from our inputting service:
List Owners
Submit your list:
- Make inputting request as soon as possible or by the term deadline by filling out an Inputting Request Form
- Submit your list as either a PDF, spreadsheet or text document
- Ensure reading importances are indicated for each item to be input
- Content to be input should ideally not exceed 60 items
Once the Library has completed inputting or updating your list, we will email you a confirmation so that you can take ownership of the next steps:
- Accept ownership of list in Talis Aspire as assigned or invited by Library
- Check list to ensure the correct items have been input
- Amend any missing or incorrect reading importances
- Publish the list by the deadline or as soon as possible
Moving Forward:
- Schedule Talis Aspire support training with a member of the team so you can make edits to your own list at any time
Library
Upon receiving your list for inputting, we will:
- Input up to 60 items of your choice, either in chronological order or in order of reading importance
- Replicate the design structure of your list in Talis Aspire (as closely as possible)
- Endeavour to input or update the list in time for the start of teaching (if submitted by or before the term deadline)
- Input items with no set reading importance as further reading (but you can easily amend this)
- Assign the list to you in Tali Aspire (new users will receive an email invitation, please action this)
- Ensure the list is linked to the correct hierarchy (module code) to faciliate linking up with any Moodle or MyWBS (Blackboard) spaces
Once you publish the list:
- the reading list team will work through the list like any other, acquiring new or additional resources as needed
Please note that where inputting is being offered to support disability, we deal with each unique situation to best support our users, so many of the above conditions may not apply.
To submit your request for inputting support, please fill out our new form.
