National Year of Reading 2026

Celebrate the National Year of Reading

Celebrate the National Year of Reading in 2026 with your University Library. All Warwick students and staff are members of the Library and have access to our rich and varied resources – make 2026 the year that you explore them and find something new to read!

Making time for reading for pleasure and self-development is important for all of us - there is a growing body of evidence which suggests that reading for pleasure has a powerful, positive impact on mental health and wellbeing. This can be through physical books, but also e-books or audio books.

How we are supporting the national campaign

Here’s how we are supporting the national campaign to help more people (re)discover the benefits and the joy of reading for 2026 and onwards:

  • Building and growing our leisure reading collection to support a wide range of reading interests. Check out the collection in our Breathing Space.
  • Developing our collection of audio and e-books to make leisure reading more accessible – download the Libby App to browse the collection and request items to be added.
  • Asking Warwick Staff and Students to share short reviews and reading suggestions which can be placed beside books on our leisure-reading shelves.
  • Opening our spaces for use by book groups, events or readings – we have a range of flexible and accessible spaces, free to book for University staff and students which are ideal for this kind of event. Contact us if you would like to host an event.

We need your help

To build an inspiring, interesting and exciting leisure reading collection, we want to hear from you! All students and staff are invited to share suggestions of the books they would like to have available in the library to share with our community*.

Your suggestions can be anything you like – fiction, encyclopaedias, cookery books, crafting books, science fiction. We just want to know why you love it and why others should explore it!

*All suggestions will be reviewed by Library staff, and we reserve the right not to purchase items of a political or religious nature, or which do not align with our values.

Online form

Share the details of the book with us and why you think others should read it using our online form - or you can fill out a paper slip in the Breathing Space.

Have you been celebrating the National Year of Reading?

Share with us any activities or events you are organising in your teams or departments – we’d love to help promote and celebrate them!
