Short Term Funding

Overview
Students can apply for up to £480 towards the cost of undertaking a short in-person international study, volunteering or research opportunity. Priority will be given to opportunities taking place in the summer.
Important Information:
- Funding for 2024-25 is very limited and there is a competitive application process
- Priority shall be given to undergraduates and students who meet widening participation criteria (see below) and have not yet undertaken an international opportunity during their time studying at Warwick
- This funding is not available to support students on Warwick led programmesLink opens in a new window or those undertaking an independent cultural trip. It must be a structured opportunity
- If you are applying for an international work experience placement, please apply for the Work Experience BursaryLink opens in a new window. You will not be eligible for this short term funding

What costs can the funding contribute towards?
The short term funding can provide up to £480 towards the following costs associated with taking part in a structured short international experience:
Required fees
This can include fees for:
- Application
- Registration
- Tuition
- Programme
Accommodation
For the period of the international opportunity
Travel costs
Return travel (flights, train, coach), plus any associated costs, e.g. airport transfers
Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible for this funding you must:
- Be a fully registered UG or PG student
- Be undertaking an opportunity of more than 3 days in duration, taking place before the end of August 2025
If you are an UG finalist, you will be required to enrol on an extension module to enable you to be covered by university emergency medical insurance during your time away. Please note that if you are signing up for an opportunity which takes place over your graduation date, you are very unlikely to be granted permission by your placement to leave and attend your graduation then return to placement. Finalists should consider this when looking at opportunity dates.

Note
- You can apply for the funding before, or after, you apply for/ secure the opportunity
- If successful, before funds will be released to you, you will be required to provide evidence of your confirmed place and, if in person, travel - instructions will be provided accordingly
- You can only received funding for an opportunity from one university funding source in the same academic year
- The following opportunities are not eligible for this short term funding:

Students who meet one or more of the below Widening Participating (WP) criteria will be prioritised
Students must submit evidence of their eligibility for the relevant WP criteria in their application
How to apply
Once you have chosen an opportunity:
1) Risk Assessment
Review and complete the Risk Assessment to attach to your application form.
This is a self-assessment of the risks associated with your proposed activity. It does not need to be signed off by anyone else
2) Apply
Complete and submit your application form.
You will need:
- Activity details, including name, website, activity type and location
- Dates of activity

Anticipated cost, including tuition/ registration fees, accommodation, travel
- Completed risk assessment
- If relevant, evidence of WP criteria
3) Reference
Arrange for your referee to complete a reference for you. This should be someone from your academic department.
It is your responsibility to contact your referee and ensure your reference is completed in time
In order for your application to be deemed complete for consideration all three of the above must be received by the application deadline

What Happens Next:
After the deadline we will review all applications and will contact all applicants with the outcome by the end of April.
Successful applicants
- We will inform you of any documentation you must provide in order to receive the funding, the latest this can be received will be 1 June 2025
- Upon receipt of all required documentation we will process your payment and notify you of such
- Payments will be processed at the start of each month and should be received within 4 weeks
