Study Happy MindfulnessSeminar Room, Library Floor 2Mindfulness practice is one of the 5 ways to wellbeing recommended by the NHS. Doing regular mindfulness exercises can help manage daily stress and has impact areas of the brain related to memory retrieval, decision making, and outward attention. Our free weekly workshops are a great way to try different mindfulness techniques if you are a beginner, and find dedicated space and time for regular practice. No booking necessary, open to all students at the University of Warwick. This is an add-on activity for those who have already participated in the "Intercultural Awareness workshop" that forms part 1 of 3 of the Intercultural Training Programme. This experiential activity builds on the learning from the Intercultural Awareness workshop about cultural influences, attitudes and behaviours, and includes an intercultural simulation activity. Responding to the Russian State’s Aggression: the Role of SanctionsRamphal Lecture TheatreSince Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine in February 2022, a violent conflict has been ongoing over the Ukraine’s borders and over Ukraine’s existence as an independent state. Sanctions on Russia’s trade and credit and on selected Russian corporations and citizens have been at the forefront of Western countries ‘response as far back as 2014. The Faculty have invited a panel of expert to discuss these events and to draw on their extensive knowledge of the region: Lord Robert Skidelsky – Emeritus Professor of Political Economy and a member of the House of Lords Maria Koinova – Professor of International Relations at the University of Warwick Mark Harrison – Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick Rilka Dragneva-Lewers – Professor of International Legal Studies at the University of Birmingham. The discussion will be chaired by Liam Halligan, an economist and broadcaster and a former student of Warwick Economics We will be discussing in more detail whether sanctions have been productive or counterproductive, if sanctions can deter aggression and what is their role when aggression nonetheless takes place and if sanctions can uphold or undermine international law. More information on the event and panellists and registration can be found on the event webpage.
