Summer Spectacular

This summer we have a spectacular line up of celebrations happening on campus. There will be our traditional Degree Congregations and Warwick Celebrates events (for those who graduated in absentia in 2020 and 2021). We’ll also be providing an Athletes village for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and co-hosting the International Children's Games.

Warwick Celebrates

Between 5-15 July we’ll be hosting graduation celebrations for our graduates who missed the chance to celebrate the completion of their degrees during the pandemic. This will be held in a large temporary structure on Cryfield Village car park.

Summer Graduation 2022

From 18-27 July, we’ll also be holding graduation ceremonies, representing the first Degree Congregations on campus for more than two years, which will be held in Warwick Arts Centre.

Commonwealth Games

Hot on the heels of Coventry City of Culture 2021, our region is in the spotlight once again. As part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, there will be close to 2000 international athletes on campus as we host an athletes' village. The games will run from 28 July to 8 August, although we will start to see developments on campus from mid-June in preparation for their arrival.

International Children's Games

The International Children’s Games (ICG) takes place on campus between the 11-16 August when we will welcome over 1500 young participants from all over the world. The ICG is in partnership with Coventry City Council, Coventry University and CV Life.

We’re delighted that Warwick has been chosen to provide world-class training facilities for athletes taking part in in the CWG and the ICG. Athletes will be given access to use our multi award-winning hospitality venues, Warwick Conferences, our student accommodation and our world-class sport facilities including the Sports and Wellness Hub.

Changes on campus

The project teams have been working together to ensure these events minimise disruption during this busy period, but there will be some impact on travel and access.

As we would like to cause as little disruption as possible, we have encouraged our staff, where possible to consider working from home during 4 July - 31 July.

Summer Campus 2022 Timeline

Please see the Summer Campus 2022 Timeline for activities occurring on campus. This will be updated as the summer progresses.

Car parking

During the summer programme of events, a number of car parks will be affected.

To help plan your journey, please see here for summer parking arrangements with closure information.

One of the car parks to be impacted will be Cryfield Village car park, where we will build a giant temporary event structure, shaped like an igloo, to hold approximately 1,000 guests for Warwick Celebrates. This car park will be temporarily closed from 9 June until mid-August.

If you’re a member of Warwick Sport, you may use the Sports and Wellness Hub car park (up to 4 hours free) while Cryfield Village car park is closed. Please ensure you register your vehicle details with reception

Accessible parking spaces

Due to the security requirements of the Athletes village, measures have been installed on campus by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee to protect athletes and their families. Regrettably, it is necessary for some accessible parking spaces outside the Athletes’ Village perimeter to be taken out of action for the duration of the games period (14 July to 13 August).

During this period, we will strive to maintain access to alternative accessible parking bays on central campus. If you need access to additional accessible parking and the remaining spaces are full, you may park considerately nearby following the highway code providing it is safe to do so and not impeding traffic or pedestrians. A valid blue badge or university issue disability permit must always be displayed.

The Accreditation Zone for the Commonwealth Games Village

From 20 June we will start work preparing the Accreditation Zone (an exclusive zone for the athletes), that will be fully operational from 14 July to 11 August.

The Accreditation Zone will have a secure perimeter fence around certain buildings on campus. Access within the accreditation zone will be controlled at all times and only accessible to authorised personnel and those with accreditation passes. Please see the updated campus map.

Buildings include:

  • Junction Building
  • Arthur Vick Residences
  • Jack Martin Residences
  • Bluebell Residences
  • Rootes Residences J-L and M-P
  • Residential Life Hub
  • International House
  • Rootes Building (excluding Pret a Manger which will remain open)
  • Cryfield blocks 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 15

Fence Build

Stage One of the fence build commenced on Monday 20 June, completing the section along the path by Tocil Lakes and the Coach Park. The next phase begins on Sunday 26 June with the installation along a section of Gibbet Hill Road on Cryfield Village Campus. The road will have active traffic management during the installation period. Once the roadside is complete, the team will then move into the Cryfield Campus, around Junction Building and through Tocil Accommodation until Friday 1 July.

Alternative walking routes and Sustrans routes

From the 14 July, a number of walking routes and Sustrans routes that are normally used, may not be available due to the Commonwealth Games village accreditation zone. An updated campus map can be found here.

The alternative routes to access campus facilities are only temporary and will resume to normal service from 13 August.

These include:

  • Students and staff who normally use the path through the centre of campus, will have a slight detour via Gibbet Hill Road
  • Sustrans route will be redirected to avoid Cryfield Campus
  • Access to the Allotment behind Arthur Vick, will need to be approached via the path which runs behind Tocil or from Gibbet Hill Road.

PG HUB

PG Hub in Junction will be relocated to the Library Building from the 4 July to 24 August. More details can be found here.

Amazon Lockers and parcel collections

Between 28 June and 11 August, the Amazon lockers by The Junction and Rootes Building will not be available to choose from the Amazon website. Any parcels already delivered will be available for collection from the lockers until 7 July. These will be locked and secured before the Commonwealth Games. Other lockers on campus will be available during this period. See here for further details.

There will also be alternative sites for parcel collection as the Students Union and Junction will not be available. Further updates will follow shortly.
