Carl Messenger, our Health and Safety rep, and a long-serving steward in the Library, writes about how he started becoming an activist at Warwick, and how the 80s miners' strike shaped him as a politically engaged, disengaged, and then engaged person.

Today, the government has passed laws that could restrict the right to strike for over five million workers. The right to strike is a fundamental British liberty. We must defend it at all costs. Attend the national march and demonstration in Cheltenham on 27 January 12:00-14:00! Contact us to arrange coaches or help with transport costs.

In 2023, we are giving £15 to both new members of UNISON & the person that refers them at University of Warwick.

The next branch AGM will take place on Monday 27th February at 1pm, in R1.03 on the first floor of the Ramphal Building. For anyone unable or uncomfortable attending in-person, there will also be the option to attend remotely via Microsoft Teams.

It will come as no surprise that workplace health & safety has become ever more important as a result of the global pandemic. We are therefore keen to support members who would like to receive training to become Health & Safety representatives with our branch.
