Research interests
British women’s fiction (Victorian to contemporary); feminist literary theory and cultural theory. She is the author of Dreams of Difference: Women and Fantasy (1992) and of numerous of essays on reading and gender. She is currently completing a book on the representation of female friendship and national identity in nineteenth and twentieth-century novels by British women writers.
