Laura Wood

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies. My WPRS funded thesis explores representations of the reader in nineteenth century literature and is being supervised by Dr. Emma Francis. I joined the University of Warwick in October 2011, having completed both my BA and MA in English Literature at the University of Kent. My MA dissertation, titled 'Indelible Impressions on Our Ingenuous Souls: A Study of Reading and of Walter Pater as Reader', inspired my current research which incorporates my interests in Victorian literature, literary theory, and close reading.

To find out more about my research, please take a look at the section of this portfolio entitled 'My Research'.

HRC Doctoral Fellowship

In February 2013, I was awarded a Humanities Research Centre Doctoral Fellowship. This one-year award - which I share with my colleagues in the English Department, Mary Addyman and Christopher Yiannitsaros - will result in our organisation of a one-day interdiciplinary conference, Devouring: Food, Drink and the Written Word, 1800-1945, which will take place here at Warwick on 8th March 2014. For more information see the section of this portfolio entitled 'Devouring 2014'.

My office hour is in Rm H514 from 1-2pm, Tuesday.

In the 2013-14 academic year I will be teaching on the undergraduate honours level module EN328 English Literature and Feminisms, 1790-1899

In the 2012-13 academic year I taught on the undergraduate honours level module EN201 The European Novel
