Long 18th Century Reading Group
The Long Eighteenth Century reading group meets once a term to discuss all types of literature from fiction, poetry, scientific and medical journals, to memoirs/life writing, pamphlets, magazines and newspaper articles.
The next meeting will be in week 6, term 1, Wednesday 10th November, 5.30pm in Seminar Room 3 of the Wolfson Research Exchange in the library:
We will be reading Matthew Gregory Lewis’ The Monk and discussing the Gothic genre.
In term two we will be reading Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure by John Cleland and discussing eighteenth-century pornography.
In term three we will be discussing representations of the supernatural (reading to be confirmed).
