Professor Trevor Burnard

The department is very sad to learn of the death of Prof. Trevor Burnard.

Trevor joined Warwick in 2007 as a professor of Caribbean History and served as Head of Department in 2009-10. Trevor was a towering figure in the history of the Atlantic World, encompassing both colonial North America and the Caribbean, with specialisms in the History of Slavery and the Revolutionary Era. He was a crucial driving force behind the British Group in Early American History and the European Early American Studies Association. But above all Trevor was a kind and generous colleague, always very happy to read a draft of a paper, mentor junior staff, or simply talk about how England, the West Indies or his beloved New Zealand were doing in the latest test match.

His loss will be keenly felt by those who knew him, and our thoughts are with Deborah and his family.
