Week 2: What is the History of Resistance?
What do we mean by resistance? This week will discuss the different forms anti-colonial resistance has taken through time. We will discuss whose history we are looking at, the methods/sources we can use to access this, and the ethical concerns that come when studying histories entailing great violence.
As well as introducing the key themes of the module, this week will also introduce the first unit: enslaved resistance.
Seminar Questions
1) How is 'resistance' best defined?
2) How have different schools of thought conceptualised resistance?
