Assessment

In-class presentation (non-assessed):

As well as coming to class every week having read and thought, and ready to talk to - and listen to! - others, students on this course normally do one in-class presentation. Guidelines for presenters
End of term 1 reflective exercise on class participation (unassessed):

- please complete this on a voluntary basis, and return to me by email. This isn't compulsory and isn't assessed, but it is a useful way of having a dialogue with your tutor about how your class participation is going and how we can work together to help you participate (even) more effectively next term! If you return it to me I'll try to send you some brief comments on it via email.

Assessed work for this module follows the "Fully Assessed" pathway for final-year History modules, and comprises:

1. 10% for in-class participation.

2. 10%: a 1,500-word essay: a book review. If you want to review a book not on the list, please check with me before proceeding. See guidelines (updated and with a new list of ideas for books to review)

3. 40%: a 3,000-word source-based essay. Check your title and topic with tutor before proceeding. Please see Guidelines for the Source-Based Essay

4. 40%: a 3,000-word essay: A longer essay on a topic of your choosing (check with tutor about your choice of title).

The material submitted for these components should not overlap substantially.

Note that this model remains the same whether or not you base your dissertation on this module.
