Principal module aims

This module will introduce students to the overlapping histories of the British empire and the making of the modern Middle East. Students will learn new methodologies around the writing of the history of empire, environment and representations. It will also give students a basis for understanding one of the world contemporary geopolitical and economic hubs, the Middle East. The aim is also to enable students to assess critically the legacies of British mperialism in the Middle East and of Britain’s quest for oil in this region.
