Raquel Navas joined Hispanic Studies in August 2014 as a Teaching Assistant and was promoted to Teaching Fellow in 2017. Before coming to Warwick she worked as a language tutor in Spanish and Catalan at the University of Birmingham and taught Spanish language and culture at Aston University.

Raquel took her degree in Hispanic Philology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and she successfully completed the postgraduate courses in Spanish and Catalan as foreign languages. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Birmingham and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Raquel is currently finishing an MPhil in Applied Linguistics to Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, Spain.

Research interests

She is interested in the field of Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition and, in particular, in the use of the linguistic landscape as a tool in the Foreign Language Classroom. Raquel is currently coordinating the HS Linguistic Landscape project, jointly with Dr Leticia Villamediana González, and is writing her dissertation about the presence of Spanish in the streets of the UK and its possibilities as an additional source of input in second language acquisition.

She is also a team member of the WIHEA funded project Open Educational Practice. KNOWHOW-Knowledge in the Open Web.
