Resonate Festival — The Booknic

We will be contributing to a local schools' family day in the War Memorial Park on Saturday 28 June as part of the University’s Resonate Festival to promote community, creativity and reading. Children will be able to have a go at making Japanese Peace Cranes and Korean bookmarks with our SMLC staff,

Mother Tongue Other Tongue — Poetry Exhibition

Our annual poetry competition for primary and secondary schools will be based on the themes of peace, reconciliation and embracing diversity and our entries will be exhibited in The Chapterhouse in Coventry Cathedral from 2 July to the end of the school summer holidays.

Coventry Cathedral Multilingual Family Visitor Activities

Our staff team will be creating a set of multilingual resources for families visiting the cathedral during the school summer holidays to reflect on the themes of peace, reconciliation and embracing diversity. We plan this to be a celebration of how intercultural awareness and empathy for others can be a conduit for peace and are delighted to have enlisted support from the Coventry Young Poet Laureate Aamani Kanda. We have commissioned Aamani to contribute a poem for our visitor booklet.

Language Learners as Peacemakers — Year 9 Schools Event

Our school's event will take place in the Cathedral on 23 October on the theme "Language Learners as Peacemakers" and will encourage students to reflect on how languages can encourage empathy and diplomacy between nations.

Evening Talks Series in The Chapterhouse

Two of our SMLC academic colleagues, Dr.Katie Stone and Dr.David Lees will be delivering evening talks on 17th and 24th September on aspects of their research related to peace and reconciliation.

SMLC Year Abroad Students — Audiovisual Exhibition

Our Year Abroad students audiovisual exhibition will include short videos of self-reflection on how peace and reconciliation are represented via monuments or artworks in the countries the students are spending time in.
