Our latest Faculty of Arts at Home film ties in with the Resonate Festival, the University of Warwick’s year-long programme of events for City of Culture, and its focus on Community throughout the month of July. Kat Pearson (PhD Student in Film and Television Studies) introduces her research into UK Cities of Culture and television, and the role that the television archive plays in placemaking. Kat discusses how she worked with the Media Archive for Central England’s collection of historic television to curate screenings of footage of Foleshill for community members, and to produce a film reel about Coventry’s architecture and public art for the Metropolis exhibition which opened in the city this month. She also discusses her role in the production of BBC4’s documentary ‘Coventry Cathedral: Building for New Britain’.

The Faculty of Arts is pleased to welcome Dr Rob O'Toole as the new Director of Experience and Progression Digital Arts and Humanities from 1 April 2021.

Construction for a new Faculty of Arts Building is underway on the University of Warwick campus. It will be a building for everyone, with a range of mixed teaching and study spaces, lecture facilities, a café and exhibition space for our entire community to enjoy.

We have commissioned Matthew Raw to create a large-scale mural, and he would like your inspiration. He has created an easy-to-do activity pack for people of all ages to complete and share with him. It's made up of some more information about the project and then some simple colour exercises – where there can be no wrong answers!

Study buddies is a [currently virtual] programme delivered by the Arts Faculty. The programme provides a space where students can write, read and work on their assessments in a supportive working environment.

At each Study Buddies session an academic will be on hand to provide support and guidance with assessments, read excerpts of your work, help you to understand feedback and be a mock audience for presentations. You can also find out where to go for more specialist support, such as academic writing, digital proficiency or employability skills.

The Then & Now project was born in early January 2020. It is a student-led research project that aims to promote a greater sense of learning community amongst the Faculty. As a response to the construction of the new Faculty of Arts building (due in 2021), the project compares what it was like to be an Arts student at Warwick in the past (“then”) and today (“now”), exploring both the history and evolution of the Faculty of Arts and the University of Warwick.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students from across the Arts have worked collaboratively to conduct archival research at the Modern Records Centre and Students’ Union Archive, as well as interviews with current and former staff and students. Originally conceived as a joint physical and digital exhibit, the Covid-19 pandemic pushed us to move all the research to the digital space, which incidentally gave us the opportunity to include far more material than the physical space would have supported

The University of Warwick is celebrating the progress of its new Faculty of Arts development with a ceremony to mark the progress in construction.
