Confidence in the Classroom and Beyond

This session is designed for those who teach, irrespective of experience and seniority. For many, the prospect of delivering a lecture, seminar, or conference paper is daunting. Hours can be spent preparing and practising for those few hours each week and the question is, why do we feel the need to spend so much of our time practicing the delivery of information we already know? What is it that is holding us back and making us question our abilities? During this session, we will think about what those ‘trigger points’ are, is it public speaking or a specific topic, and start thinking about methods to change your perception of these situations and your own abilities. This session is not offering a cure to confidence issues, rather it will provide you will some building blocks which will hopefully assist in reducing self-doubt, increase confidence, and make teaching and professional engagements less stressful.

This workshop is part of an ongoing research project exploring identities in the classroom
