WPI: Systematic Review

Systematic Review

Systematic review

The systematic review addressed the overarching question: How do institutional, organisational, professional, and patient factors influence the implementation and sustainability of actions to mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with general practice?

The review findings aimed to understand the mechanisms (behaviours, processes, and activities) that support decarbonisation in general practice. These shall be used to inform the development of other aspects of the study in subsequent WP’s.

The review shall be updated every six-months, to ensure that the final programme theory and subsequent publications draw on the most up to date evidence.

The review has been registered with ProsperoLink opens in a new window.

Application of theory

Findings from the systematic review and narrative synthesis were mapped to constructs of two sociological and behavioural theories, Normalisation Process Theory (NPT) and the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) by a multidisciplinary team. The aim was to examine the value in the application of these theories when understanding key drivers and barriers to decarbonisation in general practice.
