JUSTICE Vacancy

JUSTICE invites applications for the first Sir Henry Brooke Fellow from UK law graduates. The role is full time for six months, starting in November or December depending on the candidate’s availability. We would be open to part-time working for the right candidate. Given the current public health situation, the Fellow will work from home for the foreseeable future with regular video calls with the legal team and wider JUSTICE staff. Warwick Moto Recruitment 2020

Want to become a key part in the university's newest and most exciting student-led engineering project? Warwick Moto is a group of students who are designing and building the university's first-ever electric superbike to compete at the prestigious Isle of Man TT. We are looking for dedicated law students to assist the team in a variety of disciplines ranging from insurance, to marketing and industrial relations. You don’t need any prior knowledge of motorcycles, just a willingness to learn. Write for Lacuna Competition

Write an 800-word story on a current issue that includes themes of injustice and human rights. This shouldn’t be an academic essay but a story that appeals to mainstream readers. You may choose to write a journalistic feature, a piece of creative fiction or an opinion piece. Your aim is to challenge indifference to suffering, inspire action for change, promote wider understanding of complex rights issues and/or shine a light on injustice. The best entry will receive valuable feedback and assistance in developing their story to be published on Lacuna Magazine’s blog. Recruitment of Active Bystander Intervention Facilitators

The Dean of Students’ Office is looking to appoint two hourly-paid facilitator posts for approximately 8 hours a week for 10 weeks. This contract is for term-time only and will start in January 2021 (with a paid five-day training programme). The ideal applicant will have knowledge of sexual violence prevention work and consent education, and a passion for interpersonal violence prevention and education. Langar Aid

Langar aid, part of the humanitarian aid organisation Khalsa Aid International, is looking for volunteers to help them at their premises in Spon End, Coventry. They need volunteers to help prepare and pack meals that they distribute to the homeless every evening between 4-6.30pm. This would involve helping to serve food and also packing and arranging emergency food parcels. Warwick Volunteers can pay travel expenses by public transport for students volunteering with Langar Aid. Please ensure you keep copies of receipts.

Legal Advice Volunteers Needed

Covid-19 has seen a resurgence of demand for advice in issues including housing, debt and employment. So join us in helping the community! The Legal Advice Centre in St Oswald's Church in Tile Hill, Coventry is requesting the assistance of law students to support the Centre and its work. Action Tutoring

Action Tutoring is an education charity supporting disadvantaged young people to achieve meaningful qualifications on leaving primary and secondary school. They are looking for volunteers to provide online English or Maths tutoring to primary and secondary pupils. Volunteers work with one or two pupils for an hour a week across the course of a school term; either before, during or after the school day. Sessions take place at the same time each week; they also have one-off volunteering opportunities. All tutors are provided with training and resources.

International Education Projects Student Board

We’re looking for a group of students to form the new International Education Projects Student Board. This group will advise the University’s Internationalisation Steering Group and make recommendations for embedding internationalisation and student mobility within the Warwick student learning experience. It will also liaise with students participating in existing internationalisation activities including those as part of the EUTOPIA and Monash alliances. This is a really exciting opportunity for students to influence policy change and get involved with many of the University’s ambitious internationalisation projects, whilst developing leadership skills and gaining experience of enacting change. CLAW – Video Project

Critical Lawyers at Warwick (CLAW) is going to start making short critical videos about legal and political issues for release on our Youtube channel, and we would like to invite you to take part in the project.

You do not have to commit much time at this stage, we are just getting the project off the ground. We are running a training event on Friday 19 February at 11am. This will cover selecting ideas, basic production and interviewing techniques. It will be focused on producing a small number of introduction and interview videos this year. Deadline: 18 February 2021

Design an ED&I Award Competition

The ED&I team and the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team plan to give an award to the best example of ED&I practice by a department or faculty. We need your help to design a trophy for this award, which will subsequently be made in the School of Engineering. Our judging panel will select the winning concept, and this will be transformed into a physical trophy under the leadership of the Design Manager in Engineering. Deadline: 28 February 2021

URSS Scheme

Applications are now open for The Undergraduate Research Support Scheme which enables undergraduate students to carry out an interdisciplinary summer research project. Local Giving

A not for profit organisation that provides tools, training and advice to help local groups connect with supporters online. It has launched a new digital volunteering service that enables volunteers to support charities of their choice by matching up their unique skills and community causes from wherever they are based. One-Off Volunteering - Coventry Foodbank

We will be helping at the Coventry Foodbank warehouse (The Halo Centre, Progress Way, Coventry CV3 2NT) on Tuesday 23 March to pack food parcels for school aged children across the city. The aim is to pack 600 food parcels during the day which will be intense packing but should be fun as well! The warehouse is about a 15 minute drive from campus. There will be a morning session from 8.30am – 12.30pm and an afternoon session from 12.30pm – 4.30pm. We will need 12 volunteers for each session. You can choose to volunteer for either session or both.

The Law Society Graham Turnbull Essay Competition

This competition encourages law students and junior lawyers to examine current pressing human rights issues and to consider their impact on the wider system of human rights and law. The winner of the competition is awarded a £500 cash prize by the Graham Turnbull Memorial Fund. The title of the 2021 essay is: “What improvements, if any, should be made to the Human Rights Act 1998? Why are they needed?”

The competition is open to all current or prospective law students, trainee solicitors, pupils, solicitors and barristers within three years of admission/call at the closing date. Entrants will still be eligible if they are currently between stages and intend ultimately to pursue a career in law. Entrants must be studying or qualified in England and Wales. Deadline: 31 March 2021 at 5pm

Laura Bassi Scholarship

The scholarship, which awards a total of $8,000 thrice per annum, was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed. The scholarships are open to every discipline and the next round of funding will be awarded in April 2021. All currently enrolled master’s and doctoral candidates are eligible to apply, as are academics in the first five years of full-time employment. Deadline: 31 March 2021

PhD Scholarship 'ERC Grant CURIAE VIRIDES: Sustainable development law and access to justice

The Brussels School of Governance, is looking for a PhD-student with a doctoral grant, to conduct research on “the transformation of ecological conflicts into lawsuits and the outcomes of this process for victims of ecological damages”. You will join the team of the CURIAE VIRIDES project, funded by the European Research Council. This project conceptualises the worldwide progressive transformation of ecological conflicts into human rights or ecocentric litigation and the emerging but important role of (activist) courts in addressing ecological governance gaps. The project aims at inquiring how this greening of social litigation challenges the legal concept of attribution of liability in transnational lawsuits and influences access to remedy for victims of transnational ecological harms. Winter School 2022 - Principles of European Constitutional Law

14-18 February 2022

The Law Faculty of Würzburg, Germany invites advanced students and young professionals of both law and law-related disciplines from the European Union to participate in the Winter School 2022 to extend their knowledge of European Constitutional Law and to benefit from the exchange within a European academic forum. The first 40 participants will be granted scholarships of 500 Euro per student after enrolment and participation. All enrolled participants will be awarded 2 ECTS points. The Anglo-German Law Journal Call for Papers

Part of the Anglo-German Law course at King’s College London. Academic articles should focus on topics regarding Anglo-German law issues (i.e. authors may explain a certain unique element of "their" legal system and compare it to "the other" system). Furthermore, they can point out a current problem of one system and compare it to the other in order to inform other jurists about current developments. Legal Aid Census

The aim of this research project is to gather information about the workforce of legal aid providers in England and Wales, on behalf of Legal Aid Practitioners Group (LAPG). The project takes the form of an online survey, which will ask you some baseline information about your organisation, including the types of advice delivery you currently offer; your perceptions about the routes into the legal aid profession, job satisfaction, challenges facing different areas of law; and organisational views about how legal aid practice might have changed in response to recent legal aid cuts.

You have been invited to take part as a current or recent law student. We want the views of students to inform our understanding about careers in legal aid. The final research report will be published in late 2021, and will be widely circulated by LAPG. Complete the census.

A really useful blog on how to approach applications to law firms. This summer, an applicant for a training contract with Macfarlanes is competing with over 700 others for just 31 vacancies. Someone applying to Stephenson Harwood is up against 1,300 other applicants for one of just 20 places. The high level of competition for every training contract means that your application form must be perfect if you are to secure a place at an interview or assessment centre. Most application forms will ask you to submit a cover letter, as well as complete sections on work experience, extracurricular activities and positions of responsibility.

Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022

We’re looking for 13,000 spirited, dedicated and dynamic volunteers to join the Commonwealth Collective, be the heartbeat of the Games and help us deliver the biggest sporting and cultural event the West Midlands has ever seen.
