Your feedback matters
Thanks to your feedback we have been able to improve the student experience for postgraduates.
Postgraduate Experience Enhancement Fund
In PRES and PTES 2017 you said that community improvements should be owned by the students, so the Graduate School have introduced a Postgraduate Experience Enhancement Fund. This scheme will fund you to make improvements to your postgraduate experience and community. The fund is designed to have a quick turn around so you can make improvements within four weeks of applying.
Clearer assessment conventions
Feedback from PRES 2015 suggested you found the assessment criteria for thesis unclear. We have introduced more thesis submission workshops, and developed a Succeeding in Your Final Year session, giving you the chance to gain some clarity on the assessment and administrational expectations, related to formatting and production of the actual document. We have also reorganised the Graduate School website so it is easier to access documentation concerning thesis submission.
Professional Development for Researchers
In PRES 2015, your feedback displayed a desire for increased skills development opportunities. In response to this, we have implemented a professional development framework, which assists you to become a more effective researcher, allowing you to access the full suite of development opportunities available to you, regardless of your discipline.
All PGR students who have enrolled since 2015/16 are expected to complete 10 days of professional development per year (pro rata for part time students). Details can be found here.
In 2016 PTES both campus and distance learning students indicated there was a lack of online community support for postgraduates. In October 2016 the PG Community Engagement Team launches PG Mentoring.
PG Mentoring has been created for Warwick postgraduate students to give you the opportunity to get pastoral support and advice from trained PG Mentors.
Many postgraduates have expressed increasing concerns about managing their wellbeing during their studies and research. The PG Community Engagement Team, working with current postgraduates and Student Support Services, launched Postgrad Realities at the start of Term 1 2016.
Postgrad Realities is a set of online modules providing you with the tools you’ll need to tackle the twists and turns of your PhD journey, help you manage your wellbeing and work life balance to enable you reach your finish
Welcome to Warwick 2016 was a dedicated programme of social, academic, wellbeing and administrational events designed to help you settle into your new life as a Warwick postgraduate.
In 2016 we intergrated with Orientation to give you the chance to meet with Home, EU and International students at all levels of postgraduate study.
Summer and Winter Induction
We also responded to feedback from students who wanted induction activities outside the October period - in 2014 we began delivering central welcome receptions and offering a small programme of induction activities in January and May. Working with Central Induction Team and the PG Community Engagement team, we are continuing to expand this offering.
End of term celebrations
Building on the improvements made to postgraduate community, we have been hosting large end of term celebrations. In 2015/16, working with the PG Community Engagement team we hosted Summer Fetes and Christmas celebrations featuring live music, games, food, drink and crafts.
Each event saw between 300-150 postgrad students join us for well earned evening of relaxation and socialising.
Summer 2017 will see the first PG Summer Ball take place!
Improved access to PG study spaces
You said you wanted longer opening hours in the PG Hub. The PG Hub is now open 9am-12am Monday to Sunday. You can now use the PG Hub, including the group study and relaxation rooms until 12am seven days a week. The Research Exchange in the Library is now available 24/7 during term time for use by all Warwick researchers.
